Anthropic, an AI company, has released desktop applications for its AI chatbot Claude on Mac and Windows platforms in public beta. The apps are available for both free users and premium subscribers through Anthropic's website.
The desktop version maintains similar functionality to the web version, including asking questions, accessing old chats, and viewing starred conversations. Additionally, Anthropic has introduced a dictation feature for mobile users that allows voice message recordings up to 10 minutes in length.
However, Anthropic's recently announced Computer Use feature, which allows Claude 3.5 Sonnet to perform tasks on users' PCs, is not included in these desktop applications.
Analyst QuickTake: This follows similar moves by OpenAI and Perplexity, which have also introduced desktop applications to enhance user accessibility and engagement. OpenAI's ChatGPT desktop app, for example, provided a streamlined interface that improved user interaction with AI, catering to both casual users and professionals. Similarly, Perplexity's desktop app focused on delivering an intuitive user experience while integrating advanced AI capabilities. Claude AI’s entry into this space underscores the growing demand for robust AI solutions that can operate seamlessly across platforms. This trend suggests a shift toward more integrated AI experiences in everyday computing tasks.
