Pony.ai partners with BAIC New Energy to develop Level 4 autonomous Robotaxi model

Partnerships

  • Pony.ai, a China- and US-based self-driving vehicle technology company, and automotive manufacturer BAIC New Energy have formed a technical partnership to develop Level 4 driverless vehicles (i.e., fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations and/or conditions).

  • The collaboration will integrate Pony.ai's seventh-generation autonomous driving software and hardware system with BAIC's JiFox Alpha T5 model to create a fully unmanned robotaxi, scheduled for launch in 2025.

  • The companies also plan to pursue Level 4 model mass production certification and explore future model collaborations.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Today’s partnership adds BAIC to Pony.ai’s growing partnerships with automakers for similar purposes, including GAC Group (September 2019) and Toyota (August 2019; extended in August 2023) to build self-driving cars.
