OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Search, a web search feature integrated into its ChatGPT platform. The service is initially available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers, with plans to extend access to free users in the coming months.
ChatGPT Search uses a fine-tuned version of the GPT-4o model to provide real-time information from the web, including sports scores, news, stock quotes, and photos. The feature includes in-line and sidebar attribution to news publishers, allows follow-up questions to refine searches, and comes with a Chrome browser extension to make it the default search engine.
Analyst QuickTake: This follows the temporary prototype the company launched in July this year, which was available to 10,000 test users at launch. The company has partnered with various news and data providers to offer updated information on weather, stocks, sports, news, and maps. OpenAI plans to enhance the search capabilities in areas like shopping and travel, integrate it with Advanced Voice Mode, and implement o1 "reasoning" models for deeper research.
