BlackSky Technology, a geospatial intelligence provider, has acquired the remaining 50% stake in LeoStella, a small satellite design and manufacturer, from its joint venture partner, Thales Alenia Space for an undisclosed sum.
LeoStella builds BlackSky satellites and previously operated as a 50:50 joint venture between BlackSky and Thales Alenia Space. This acquisition is intended to optimize the Gen-3 supply chain and production operations. BlackSky's Gen-3 satellite constellation will offer higher frequency monitoring and 35 cm resolution when launched, with the first Gen-3 satellite expected to ship to Rocket Lab's launch site in New Zealand in the coming weeks.
