OpenAI launches Sora video generator for ChatGPT subscribers

Product updates

  • OpenAI has introduced a video model called Sora Turbo to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers. The tool requires credits for video generation, with ChatGPT Plus plans including 1,000 credits and Pro plans offering 10,000 credits that reset monthly.

  • The pricing structure varies based on resolution and duration, with 480p videos costing 20–150 credits, 720p videos at 30–540 credits, and 1080p videos at 100–2,000 credits. ChatGPT Plus subscribers can generate up to 50 priority videos at 720p/five seconds, while Pro subscribers can create up to 500 priority videos at 1080p/20 seconds, along with unlimited low-priority videos without watermarks.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This launch follows the introduction of the USD 200/month ChatGPT Pro version a few days ago. Adding Sora to ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscriptions showcases OpenAI's commitment to enhancing user experience through advanced capabilities. However, the exclusion of users in the EU and UK at launch highlights the regulatory challenges that continue to shape the deployment of AI technologies in these regions.
