Esports tournament startup Community Gaming has raised USD 2.3 million in a seed funding round led by CoinFund. The round also included the participation of crypto companies Dapper labs, Animoca Brands, and Multicoin Capital. The investment follows an earlier pre-seed investment led by ConsenSys.
The fresh funds will be utilized to expand its operations into Latin America and Southeast Asia. Furthermore, Community Gaming has plans to develop its rewards program, including its own token, and offer players complex and smart contracts for league play.
Founded in 2017, Community Gaming initially focused on hosting Local Area Network Tournaments and pivoted to offer an automated esports tournament platform. The platform automatically manages tournament brackets once the tournament organizer decides the format, rules, and payout methods.
The platform uses blockchain technology to distribute player rewards. It also offers the ability to create digital crypto wallets to facilitate the movement of cash in and out of player accounts. To date, the company has hosted more than 200 local events and over 300 esports tournaments since the start of 2021. The company generates revenue via sponsorships from Facebook and other blockchain companies, and it is currently running 15 USD 1,000 tournaments each month.
