Postmates and Pink Dot start an autonomous deliveries trial in West Hollywood, California

Partnerships

  • Postmates’ autonomous delivery droid, Serve, has launched trial deliveries in a partnership with Pink Dot, an online grocery and essentials store in West Hollywood, California.

  • Pink Dot customers ordering through the Postmates app are now given the option to get bots or humans to deliver the order. Deliveries via the bots are monitored by a human escort and are free of charge during the trial.

  • The trial run is set to take place over the next three months using three bots, and upon its success, the permanent launch of delivery bots will be considered.

  • Postmates Serve develops autonomous delivery droids that travel via sidewalks using a combination of LiDAR, sonar, computer vision, time-of-flight cameras, and GPS to navigate. It is roughly 3 ft. tall and can carry up to 50 lbs. in its compartment, covering a 2-mile radius.
