Aleph Farms, a cell-cultured meat startup, secured USD 105 million in a Series B funding round led by L Catterton and DisruptAD (the venture arm of Abu Dhabi holding company ADQ) with participation from Skyviews Life Science, Thai Union, BRF, and CJ CheilJedang amongst others. Aleph has now raised a total of 119.4 million.
The startup plans to utilize the funds to scale manufacturing, expand its product portfolio and facilitate the global commercialization of its cell-cultured steak ahead of a 2022 launch.
Aleph Farm is DisruptAD’s first Israel-based partner and the VC firm to set up an Aleph Farm manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi to supply cell-cultured meat across the UAE and other Gulf states.
Founded in 2017, Aleph Farms is an Israeli startup developing cultured meat using animal cells. In February 2021, Aleph Farms—in collaboration with the faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology—launched the world’s first cell-cultured ribeye steak, produced using its 3D bioprinter technology and cultured meat cells. The company claims that its cell-cultured ribeye steak is thicker than its first product, thin-cut steak, unveiled in 2018.
