Bolt Threads partners with Lululemon to create yoga accessories from mushroom leather

Product updates
Partnerships

  • Bolt Threads, a producer of the mycelium-based material “Mylo,” has partnered with the Canadian athletic apparel retailer Lululemon, to introduce mycelium (a mushroom root structure) leather in creating yoga accessories.

  • Yoga accessories to be produced with Mylo include a woven yoga mat, a yoga bag, and a duffel bag. The products will be available for sale from early 2022.

  • Bolt Threads formed “The Mylo Consortium” in October 2020 with participation from leading fashion brands Stella McCartney, Adidas, Kering, and Lululemon who collectively invested in the development of Mylo in exchange for access to commercial supplies of the Mylo material.

  • Bolt Threads claims that Mylo can be produced more quickly than animal leather and can be produced in varying tones, colors, or finishes. Mylo has been used by brands including Stella McCartney (apparel) and Adidas (footwear). In addition to Mylo, the Bolt Threads also manufactures “Microsilk”, from proteins inspired by spider silk through a yeast fermentation process.
