Flytrex, a drone delivery company, has partnered with El Pollo Loco, a chicken restaurant chain, to begin the pilot of a drone-based delivery service dubbed “Air Loco” for door-to-backyard delivery.
Initially, around 10 of the restaurant’s locations will participate in the tests in Orange County, Southern California, with plans to scale operations depending on the pilot’s success.
El Pollo Loco believes it will take around 10-12 minutes for each drone-based delivery, compared to 36-40 minutes for ground delivery.
Analyst quick take : Founded in Israel, Flytrex currently conducts drone deliveries in Iceland and the US. This marks Flytrex’s first partnership with a quick-service restaurant and its first in California. The news comes after the company received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval last month to operate drones over people, allowing deliveries directed straight to customers’ homes within the visual line of sight (VLOS).
