Ambri, a long duration battery startup, secured USD 144 million in a funding round led by Reliance New Energy Solar (a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries), with participation from Bill Gates, Fortistar, Goehring & Rozencwajg Associates, Japan Energy Fund, and others.
The round brings Ambri’s total funding to USD 211.3 million. The funds will be utilized to build manufacturing facilities in the US and internationally.
Reliance New Energy Solar will also work as Ambri’s strategic partner to develop the company’s batteries in India.
Founded in 2010, Ambri develops and manufactures liquid metal batteries that are significantly cost-effective compared to lithium-ion batteries. Ambri batteries were invented at the Group Sadoway lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Ambri’s largest shareholder is Bill Gates.
