Ambri secures USD 144 million in funding

Funding

  • Ambri, a long duration battery startup, secured USD 144 million in a funding round led by Reliance New Energy Solar (a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries), with participation from Bill Gates, Fortistar, Goehring & Rozencwajg Associates, Japan Energy Fund, and others.

  • The round brings Ambri’s total funding to USD 211.3 million. The funds will be utilized to build manufacturing facilities in the US and internationally.

  • Reliance New Energy Solar will also work as Ambri’s strategic partner to develop the company’s batteries in India.

  • Founded in 2010, Ambri develops and manufactures liquid metal batteries that are significantly cost-effective compared to lithium-ion batteries. Ambri batteries were invented at the Group Sadoway lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Ambri’s largest shareholder is Bill Gates.
