Canadian quantum computing startup Xanadu has collaborated with IMEC—a Belgian research and innovation center—to develop and fabricate photonic qubits based on ultra-low loss silicon nitride (SiN) waveguides for fault-tolerant quantum computing. The financial details of the collaboration have not been disclosed.
The collaboration will leverage IMEC’s advanced research and development (R&D) technologies, cutting-edge production processes, high-volume manufacturing capabilities, and photonics platform—initially developed for communication—to produce photonic chips for Xanadu.
Xanadu further believes IMEC’s technologies will assist in scaling its technology to generate error-correctable and fault-tolerant qubits, potentially supporting the company in achieving its 2026 goal of building a one million-qubit computer.
