Volta Trucks enters into a manufacturing partnership with Steyr Automotive

Partnerships
Product updates

  • Volta Trucks, a developer of fully electric trucks, has partnered with commercial vehicle manufacturer Steyr Automotive (formerly MAN Truck and Bus Austria) to manufacture Volta trucks in Steyr, Austria. The company plans to start customer trials by mid-2022 and commence series production by late 2022.

  • Since Volta plans to launch the product in London and Paris initially, the company believes that selecting a manufacturing location in Austra will shorten its time to market and minimize its environmental footprint. Furthermore, the manufacturing contract is believed to generate up to 500 jobs in the region and an additional 2,000 positions within the supply chain.

  • The company has also announced a tender process with potential suppliers in Europe.

  • The announcement of a manufacturing partner furthers Volta Trucks’ strategy aimed at building more than 27,000 units of its four electric truck models, with sizes ranging from 7.5–19 tonnes per year, by 2025.
