BlueNalu, a US-based cell-cultured seafood startup, has announced that it is partnering with Nomad Foods, Europe’s largest buyer of wild caught fish, to develop cell-cultured seafood products. Under the partnership, the two companies will carry out market research, identify consumer insights, navigate the regulatory challenges, and explore new business and product opportunities in Europe.
This marks BlueNalu’s third major collaboration for the year where, in April 2021, the startup signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Corporation and the seafood giant Thai Union to commercialize its cultivated seafood products in the Asia-Pacific region faster.
Nomad Foods is Europe's largest frozen foods producer, with leading brands: Findus, Iglo, La Cocinera, and Green Cuisine. The company aims to adopt cell-cultured meat to its business in response to the rising demand for seafood and to ensure the sustainability of fish populations in the long term.
