Flashfood, a Canadian startup offering an app for finding groceries close to expiration, has partnered with the Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA), a US chain of grocery stores that operates in more than 30 countries and in 46 states in the US. The partnership will help launch its app to 1,100 IGA independent local grocery stores in the US.
According to IGA, using the Flashfood app would allow independent grocery stores to improve EBIT by 3–5% and to maintain competitiveness in the retail industry by reducing food wastage. In addition, enrolled members will receive support from IGA to source equipment and in-store marketing while Flashfood will support in-store implementation of the program.
For Flashfood, this collaboration marks a major milestone in expanding across the US. To date, Flashfood has teamed up with several North American grocery chains, including The Giant Co., Stop & Shop, Meijer, and Price Rite Marketplace, to save over 25 million pounds of food from going to waste.
