Trigo, an Israeli computer vision startup, has partnered with German-owned supermarket chain Aldi to power a 400-square-meter Aldi Nord grocery store in Utrecht, Netherlands early next year. This marks Trigo’s entry into the Dutch market.
When entering the Trigo-powered store, customers will have to scan a QR code via the Trigo mobile app, and all selected items will be tracked by the Trigo Vision system that uses cameras and AI-powered sensors. Once shopping is complete, the receipt will be sent to the customers’ mobile app, enabling automatic payment.
Trigo stated it currently deploys its automated checkout tech at “five of the ten largest grocery retailers” worldwide, including Tesco (UK) and REWE (Germany). Aldi operates over 10,000 stores in 20 countries, with the Aldi Nord division considered to be Europe’s largest grocery retailer.
