“Feed for Meat,” a joint project of the Dutch cell-cultured meat producer Mosa Meat and animal nutrition company Nutreco, received a grant of USD 2 million from the European REACT-EU recovery assistance program. The joint project was ranked first in a scheme that received over 60 funding applications. The two companies expect to use the grant to reduce production costs and improve the sustainability of the cultured value chain.
According to the firms, the funds will be allocated to R&D and to lower the expense of the base media, one of the most expensive components in cell-cultured meat production. Nutreco and Mosa Meat claim that by shifting away from pharma-grade products and adopting feed and food-grade products, they will be able to considerably reduce the costs of these basal media.
