Clearview AI signs USD 500,000 contract with US Department of Homeland Security

Partnerships

 • Clearview AI, a developer of facial recognition-based solutions for law enforcement, has been awarded a USD 500,000 contract by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to be used by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

 • The awarded contract is for one year starting from September 2021, with the potential of going up to USD 1.5 million for three years, with the contract ending in September 2024.

 • The new contract, worth twice as much as last year’s contract value, is reportedly the largest between the two entities and at least the fifth federal contract awarded to Clearview AI since 2019.

Analyst QuickTake: Clearview AI continues to expand operations in the US despite privacy concerns and claims over illegal use of personal information. The company was banned in Canada in February and in Australia earlier this month for collecting citizens’ personal information without consent. The company has also faced several allegations by immigrant rights groups in March and several privacy organizations in May , claiming the company violates the privacy rights of individuals.
