Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, has signed a carbon dioxide (CO2) removal agreement with Ocado Retail, the world's largest dedicated online supermarket.
Climeworks will capture CO2 from the atmosphere via its proprietary direct air capture and storage technology.
Ocado Retail has agreed to purchase 1,000 tons of CO2 from Climeworks, which would be equivalent to CO2 emitted from Ocado Retail’s head office over seven years.
The partnership is in line with Ocado Retail’s goal to become net-zero by 2040 and would reportedly make Ocado Retail the world’s first supermarket to operate a carbon-free head office.
