Climeworks signs deal to capture carbon emission for Ocado Retail

Partnerships

  • Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, has signed a carbon dioxide (CO2) removal agreement with Ocado Retail, the world's largest dedicated online supermarket.

  • Climeworks will capture CO2 from the atmosphere via its proprietary direct air capture and storage technology.

  • Ocado Retail has agreed to purchase 1,000 tons of CO2 from Climeworks, which would be equivalent to CO2 emitted from Ocado Retail’s head office over seven years.

  • The partnership is in line with Ocado Retail’s goal to become net-zero by 2040 and would reportedly make Ocado Retail the world’s first supermarket to operate a carbon-free head office.
