• Dronamics, a Bulgarian cargo drone manufacturer, has announced plans to unveil its first production-scale “Black Swan” drone model at Sofia Airport, Bulgaria early next week in collaboration with the airport operator SOF connect.

 • The drone can transport roughly 770 lbs at a distance of just over 1,550 miles but needs a runaway of 0.25 miles for takeoff and landing. The company targets same-day shipping services for ecommerce, pharmaceutical, and time-critical products over long distances.

 • In addition to unveiling the aircraft, the company will collaborate with SOF Connect to conduct flight demonstrations, trials, and assess possibilities to expand manufacturing and testing facilities with airside access at the location.

 • Dronamics also revealed that it is currently conducting tests and working towards obtaining necessary approvals (expected in 2022) to begin commercial operations in Europe.

Analyst QuickTake: Dronamics’ Black Swan has the highest payload capacity and mileage compared to specifications of other drone startups within our coverage. In comparison, its peer and a distant second, MightyFly, can carry a payload of only 500 lbs covering a distance of 600 miles. This helps Dronamics to differentiate its product offering in terms of carrying capacity and mileage, but it needs a runway for takeoff and landing unlike most drones with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, including MightyFly.
