Ecovative Design, a manufacturer of advanced packing materials using mycelium-based fungus, has partnered with fashion brands BESTSELLER and PVH Corp. (owner of brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger) to launch “Fashion for Good Cooperative”, a collaboration to produce sustainable fashion products using vegan leather.
Through the collaboration, BESTSELLER and PVH Corp. will have access to Ecovative’s “Forager Hides” and expect to co-develop mycelium-based end products by incorporating Forager Hides in their fashion brands.
Forager Hides is a 100% plant-based mycelium leather launched in March 2021, which is free of plastic scrims and petroleum-based coatings. The vegan leather material is grown in sheets under a nine-day growth process and can be customized based on strength, density, and fiber orientation.

Analyst Quicktake: Ecovative has mostly focused on launching its solution for the packaging industry. However, following this partnership, the company will be able to deploy its new mycelium leather product across a variety of end products and consumer applications such as clothing, footwear, and fashion accessories. By doing so, Ecovative Design will be able to accelerate its plans to achieve commercial-scale production and leverage its new 100,000 lb/year mycelium production platform, which it unveiled earlier this year.
