Blue Ocean Closures to develop bio-based packaging with Glatfelter and ALPLA Group

  • Blue Ocean Closures (BOC), a Swedish bio-based packaging startup, has partnered with engineered materials supplier Glatfelter Corporation and its joint venture partner ALPLA Group (an Austria-based global packaging and container manufacturing company) to produce fiber-based packaging products.

  • The companies will develop natural fiber-based packaging products, such as screw caps, which are completely bio-based and would also potentially be ocean biodegradable. The products are based on BOC’s dry forming technology, which separates paper or pulp into fibers to form a cellulose web that can be converted into a mold. The partnership will also help BOC accelerate the successful commercialization of its solution while supporting further product development.

  • Glatfelter and ALPLA expect the collaboration to allow them to integrate their technology expertise with BOC to launch sustainable products for a circular economy.
