US-based full-stack quantum computing company Quantinuum (Honeywell-Cambridge Quantum Computing joint venture) has introduced a new quantum processor called System One H1-2, which achieved a milestone of 2,048 quantum volume (reportedly the highest thus far) with 12 qubits.
The H1-2 is an upgraded version of the H1-1 trapped-ion processor (launched in October 2020) with improved gate and measurement fidelities, reduced errors, and faster circuit compilation. However, the new system uses the same trapped-ion technology, control system design, integrated optics, and photonics as the H1-1 processor.
Quantinuum’s H1 series of quantum computers have demonstrated significant quantum volume improvements during 2021 that included H1-1 reaching a quantum volume of 512 in March 2021 and 1,024 in July 2021.
