Something Better Foods, a plant-based meat and seafood startup, has received USD 500,000 in a seed funding round from the venture capital fund ICA. The company intends to utilize the new funds to expand its operations and increase job opportunities for the local community.
Founded in 2011, Something Better Foods uses a proprietary process to produce plant-based products such as chicken patties, meatballs, fried chicken, steak, fried fish, chicken nuggets, breakfast sausage patties, and chicken patties, sold under its Better Chew brand. The company distributes its products through foodservice channels and direct-to-consumer (DTC) spaces. Something Better Foods incorporates an equity and representation business model to bring a revolutionary change in making plant-based products accessible to marginalized and underrepresented communities, focusing on racial and gender parity.
