Trigo, an Israeli computer vision startup, has partnered with a discount supermarket chain, Netto to retrofit its first 220-square-meter Netto City supermarket in Munich, Germany, with a frictionless hybrid checkout technology.
Trigo has a GDPR-compliant privacy-by-design solution and does not use biometric or facial recognition data, allowing Netto’s customers to shop anonymously without having to share their product choice. It does so by combining AI technology with ceiling-mounted cameras, so shoppers scan a QR code on their app when entering the store. The purchase amount for picked-up items is charged to the payment method stored in the app when exiting the store.
The collaboration also ensures frictionless checkout for buying items that require age verification by increasing the age limit of Netto's checkout app to 18 and above.
Netto has 4,000 stores across Germany and is owned by the EDEKA Group, one of the largest food chains globally. Trigo has also partnered with discount supermarket chain Aldi Nord in September 2021, as well as Tesco and REWE.
