Trigo, an Israeli computer vision startup, has partnered with Wakefern Food Corp., the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the US, to pilot an autonomous supermarket using its AI-based frictionless checkout technology.
Trigo’s GDPR compliant technology will be deployed at a store under the Wakefern cooperative in New Jersey. The cooperative includes 50 members who own and operate 362 retail supermarkets under the ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, Gourmet Garage, and Fairway Market brands across the country. Trigo uses an AI-based computer vision technology that allows customers to scan products as they enter the store using an app, pick items, and leave without having to checkout.
The company has also formed notable partnerships in 2021 across Europe, such as having partnered with Tesco, UK, discount supermarket chain Aldi Nord, Germany, and Netto, owned by the EDEKA Group. This will be Trigo’s first collaboration in the US.
