Instacart, an online grocery delivery platform offering same-day delivery, has launched “Ready Meals Hub,” allowing users to order ready-made meals from grocery stores on its app.
Ready-made meals have been offered on the Instacart platform since January 2020, however, the option was not a prominent one. With the Ready Meals platform being an in-app option, users can now order meals from more than 4,100 grocery stores across 35 states in the US like Publix, Giant, Food Lion, Hannaford, Stop & Shop, Martin’s, and Kroger. Its offerings include salads, sandwiches, soups, sushi, rotisserie chicken, and more.
In October 2021, Instacart acquired FoodStorm, a SaaS order management system, to enhance its platform to allow grocers to process online catering orders. Instacart believes it can compete with online food and prepared meal delivery players, as the ready-made meals option from grocers is a cost-effective one in comparison to restaurant takeout.
