French startup La Vie (previously known as 77 Foods) has raised EUR 25 million (USD 28.3 million) in a Series A funding round led by VC fund Seventures, making it the largest single plant-based protein funding round for a French food tech company. The round was also joined by actress Natalie Portman, Oatly Chairman Eric Melloul, several VC funds, and French unicorn startup CEOs. The funds will be used for mass distribution in France, expansion in Europe and the UK, partnerships with large restaurant chains, and accelerating innovation.
Founded in 2019 by Nicolas Schweitzer et Vincent Poulichet, the company produces plant-based bacon using soy protein, sunflower oil, and tapioca starch through a patented extraction process. La Vie sells its products through French supermarket giant Carrefour and has secured partnerships with Burger King France, poke chain Pokawa, and plant-based fast food shop Furahaa.
