Wingcopter signs USD 16 million contract with Spright for drone-based medical deliveries in the US

Partnerships

 • German drone delivery provider Wingcopter has signed a contract worth USD 16 million with Spright, a subsidiary of US-based air medical service provider Air Methods, to supply its “Wingcopter 198” drones to conduct drone-based medical deliveries in the US.

 • As per the deal, Wingcopter is the exclusive supplier of drones to Spright’s operations in the US, and Spright has exclusive rights to provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul for the Wingcopter’s drone to third parties in the country.

 • Initial tests will be conducted in partnership with Hutchinson Regional Health System in Hutchinson, Kansas, with plans to expand the geographical coverage later this year.

 • Spright will also support Wingcopter to obtain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications.

Analyst QuickTake: Today’s news builds on the partnership Wingcopter entered with Air Methods in August last year, where the duo first announced their intention to use Wingcopter 198s for drone-based medical deliveries in the US through Spright. Other prominent peer companies with a focus on medical supplies delivery in the US include Zipline and Matternet.
