Frichti, the French online meal and grocery delivery platform, is to be acquired by German rapid grocery delivery startup Gorillas for an undisclosed amount. The terms of the deal are yet to be determined.
Frichti started off by creating its own recipes and delivering pre-made meals prepared by its staff, venturing into grocery delivery in 2018. Gorillas will have access to Frichti’s customers (more than 450,000) as well as its 25 micro fulfillment centers across France and Belgium. Frichti is expected to retain its own brand following the acquisition.
Founded in 2020, Gorillas operates a network of urban dark stores to fulfill orders for speedy grocery deliveries. It operates in more than 55 cities including Amsterdam, London, Paris, Madrid, New York, Milan, and Munich. In 2021, Gorillas raised USD 1 billion in Series C funding led by Delivery Hero. Frichti and Gorillas combined would have a 17% market share, the second-largest share of same-day grocery deliveries in Paris, ahead of Carrefour SA.
