Hyzon Motors (Hyzon), a developer of commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs), has announced plans to open a new facility in Melbourne, Australia in partnership with the civic and social organization The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) at an estimated cost of AUD 50+ million (USD 37 million).
The 107,000+ square-feet plant will act as its Australian headquarters and also include showroom, assembly warehousing, and workshop facilities. The company expects to deliver “hundreds of vehicle orders” annually through the facility by 2025.
Hyzon believes the facility would generate around 100 local job opportunities in the engineering and manufacturing fields and facilitate “hundreds more” indirect jobs throughout the supply chain by 2025.
As per the deal, Hyzon is also expected to supply three locally manufactured tilt-tray trucks and an imported prime mover to Nationwide Group, an RACV-owned subsidiary, by the end of the year.

With the new facility, the company will be able to reach the Australian and New Zealand markets faster while supporting the Australian and New Zealand governments’ efforts to promote hydrogen-based vehicles in the region. Hyzon has already secured orders for various hydrogen-based commercial vehicles in 2021 from several companies in the region, including TR Group, Coregas, and Ark Energy. </ul>
