Carrefour to sell The Vegetarian Butcher products at traditional butcher counters

Geographic expansion

  • For the first time in France, Carrefour, the eighth-largest retailer in the world, has started offering products from The Vegetarian Butcher at its traditional butcher counters, making it the first major retailer to market the products. Carrefour will initially offer four of The Vegetarian Butcher’s meat substitute products: soy-based mince, soy-based “chicken” breaded nuggets, chicken-style chunks, and veggie burger patties.

  • Unilever acquired the dutch vegan meat brand The Vegetarian Butcher in 2018 and expanded the brand to more than 45 countries. The Vegetarian Butcher provided Burger King’s first plant-based burger the Rebel Whopper and other products such as Plant-Based Nuggets and Vegan Royale. It has also partnered with other renowned foodservice partners such as Domino’s Pizza and Starbucks.
