Sulapac launches bio-based lids for CHANEL’s new skincare product

Product updates

  • Sulapac, a Finland-based bioplastic packaging startup, has announced launching its bio-based packaging lids for French fashion brand CHANEL’s new beauty and skincare product “N°1 de CHANEL.” Sulapac has been working with CHANEL since 2018 to supply the latter with bio-based packaging materials.

  • Sulapac’s lid comprises 90% bio-based ingredients including camellia seed shells and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood chips. The FSC certification ensures that the wood is sourced from responsibly managed forests.

  • This is reportedly the first time Sulapac has used camellia seed shells as an ingredient for its material and the biggest challenge for the company was to overcome the hydrophilic properties to make the material resistant to heat and moisture. The company reportedly had 40 trials before it found the right formulation.

  • The bio-based lids are produced to CHANEL’s product standards, which maintain the properties of traditional packaging materials including sensory properties such as feel and unique sound.
