Heliogen to deploy a 20,000-ton hydrogen plant in Arizona

Geographic expansion

 • Heliogen, a concentrated solar startup, was granted the exclusive right to lease land in the Brenda Solar Energy Zone (SEZ) by the US Bureau of Land Management.

 • The company plans to deploy a facility producing 20,000 tons of hydrogen per year in Arizona. The Brenda site is close to hydrogen distribution channels and natural gas pipelines.

Analyst QuickTake: The announcement falls in line with Heliogen’s previously disclosed plans to start hydrogen production in 2022. In November 2021 , Heliogen and Bloom Energy also launched a demonstration facility in Lancaster, California to produce low-cost green hydrogen. The combined technology claims to produce clean hydrogen 45% more efficiently than proton exchange membrane and alkaline electrolyzers.
