Watershed, an SaaS-based carbon management solution provider, has raised USD 70 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins. The investors also valued the company at USD 1 billion.
The funds will be utilized to develop new tools to measure the carbon footprint of businesses and to scale up Watershed’s team across the US and Europe.
<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake: Watershed’s funding round is the third-largest in the climate tech software space after Ecovadis’ USD 200 million private equity raise in January 2020 and Persefoni’s USD 101 million Series B round in October 2021. The round also makes Watershed the fourth-largest climate tech software company by funds raised, after EcoVadis (USD 235.8 million), Persefoni (USD 114.2 million), and Measurabl (USD 79.6 million). Climate tech software funding has picked up recently, raising nearly USD 379 million in 2021, a 42% YoY increase.</ul>
