Encore, an augmented reality (AR)-enabled live performance app co-founded by American rapper Kid Cudi, launched today having raised USD 9 million in a seed funding round led by Battery Ventures. 468 Capital, Parade Ventures, Nomad Ventures, and Moving Capital also participated.
Founded in 2020, Encore provides artists tools to create music and perform live with an augmented reality background using its mobile app. The app also enables creators to host conversations with fans, share interactive experiences, and earn through gamified microtransactions in the form of a “clap” feature that allows fans to applaud for USD 0.10. During its private beta stage, hundreds of artists including SSGKobe, The Cool Kids, Too $hort, and DC the Don have performed on the app for thousands of fans, who in turn have “clapped” nearly a million times.
