mmhmm, a tool that enhances online video meeting presentations, announced its first acquisition, Memix.
Based in San Francisco, Memix offers various filters and special effects (e.g., lighting, background details, retouching appearance, etc.), which can be applied to live and pre-recorded videos. The Memix filters are deployed using a virtual camera and available for Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams.
Memix was founded by Inigo Quilez, former product manager and lead engineer at Facebook, and Pol Jeremias-Vila, lead graphics software engineer at Pixar Studios. The co-founders will not be joining mmhmm full-time; however, they will assist with the transition and integration of the tech.
For mmhmm, this is another step in its bid to improve the video meeting user experience. Memix’s technology will be integrated with mmhmm’s platform, allowing mmhmm to boost its upcoming consumer launch on Windows.
Founded in 2019 by former Evernote CEO Phil Libin, mmhmm allows users to share presentations, web browsers, and videos while the speaker remains on-screen for a more interactive video conferencing experience. The platform already connects with video conferencing tools from Cisco, Google, Microsoft, and Zoom, as well as YouTube. mmhmm is currently in invite-only beta, but to-date, reports more than 100,000 signups, with a consumer launch expected in late October.
