NotCo, a Chile-based FoodTech startup, teamed up with Kraft-Heinz to form a joint venture (JV) to leverage the strengths of both companies and develop a line of plant-based food. The JV, called The Kraft Heinz Not Company LLC, will operate under the control of Kraft-Heinz and will be headquartered in Chicago, with R&D facilities in San Francisco. Lucho Lopez-May, the current CEO of NotCo North America, will become CEO of the new entity.
The Kraft Heinz Not Company LLC will use NotCo's patented AI platform (Guiseppe) to produce plant-based food, while Kraft-Heinz will contribute its manufacturing skills and well-established sales networks to market the products. Guiseppe is a technological platform that reverse-engineers animal goods and recreates them with plant-based ingredients using AI and machine learning techniques.
