Canadian vegan fast-food chain Odd Burger (known as Globally Local prior to 2021) launched a new range of plant-based meat and dairy products under the brand name “Preposterous Food”. The line will be distributed exclusively through the world's largest food services company, Sysco, giving Preposterous Foods access to 330 distribution facilities worldwide.
The Preposterous brand will debut 10 plant-based items, which the startup claims is minimal-ingredient, minimally processed, and made with ingredients such as chickpeas, oats, and wheat gluten. The plant-based meat range will feature meatless wings, beefy ground meat, gyro meat, breakfast sausage, and a crispy chicken burger, while the dairy-free sauce range includes dairy-free ranch dressing, honey mustard sauce, tzatziki sauce, eggless mayo, and dairy-free cheese sauce.
Founded in 2014 as a grassroots reseller of organic fruits and vegetables, the startup explored vegan meal kits and introduced what is now known as the “Famous Burger” at a food festival in 2016, before launching Canada's first vegan fast-food restaurant in 2017. Its restaurants operate as compact smart kitchens designed for fast service, self-checkout kiosks, and cashless transactions. Odd Burger currently has 6 restaurants, and it intends to increase to 20 outlets within the next 12 months. Odd Burger is traded on the TSX Venture Exchange, the OTCQB, and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
