German drone delivery provider Wingcopter has linked up with the Flying Labs Network as a technology partner. The Flying Labs Network is a drone applications-related training and education program provider led by the not-for-profit organization WeRobotics. It currently has locally-led drone delivery projects in over 30 countries across the world.
Through the partnership, Wingcopter expects to conduct locally-led drone-based medical deliveries to remote areas and to educate local communities about the applications and operation of drones. Furthermore, Flying Labs will be able to purchase Wingcopter drones at a discount.
The partnership follows a recent survey conducted by WeRobotics, where around 90% of Flying Labs Network participants confirmed that there was demand for drone-based deliveries within their respective countries.
Wingcopter is a drone delivery startup engaged in transporting medical supplies to remote health facilities, and food and other parcels to private customers. The company operates as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for drones as well as offering drone Delivery-as-a-Service. In addition to inter-office parcel delivery trials at a local university, Wingcopter has a presence in international markets including Kenya, Vanuatu, Malawi, Tanzania, and Ireland to provide drone-based medical deliveries. Furthermore, in March 2020, UPS Flight Forward announced plans to collaborate with Wingcopter to develop its new drone fleet.
