Linear, a project management and issue tracking tool, raised USD 13 million in a Series A funding round led by Sequoia Capital (which led Linear’s USD 4.2 million seed funding round). The round included participation from notable investors such as Patrick Collison (CEO, Stripe), Dick Costolo (former CEO of Twitter), and Adam Bain (former COO of Twitter).
This brings total funding to USD 17.2 million, and the fresh capital will be allocated toward enhancing its product offering and increasing headcount. The company also introduced new capabilities, including a roadmap tool and a new OAuth2 authentication process, making it easier for developers to build extensions to the platform.
Founded in 2019, Linear is aimed at engineers, designers, and product managers to map projects and coordinate day-to-day tasks and workflows. In addition, it seeks to streamline software development tasks such as bug tracking and sprints. It currently has eight employees across the US and Europe, including engineers and designers from well-known companies like Microsoft, Slack, Uber, Coinbase, and Airbnb (Saarinen, Co-founder and CEO of Linear, is a former principal designer at Airbnb). The platform is integrated with tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Sentry, and Slack.
