Arkeon Biotechnologies raises EUR 7 million in seed funding

Funding

  • Arkeon Biotechnologies, an Austrian sustainable ingredients company that creates protein using microbes and carbon dioxide, has raised EUR 7 million (~USD 7.7 million) in seed funding led by Blue Horizon Ventures with participation from EVIG, Synthesis Capital, and ReGen Ventures.

  • The funds will be used to scale up the production of amino acids and peptides to develop clean-label ingredients for use in plant-based and cell-cultured food.

  • Founded in 2021, Arkeon Biotechnologies converts carbon dioxide into customizable functional proteins (which include 20 essential amino acids) by using microorganisms in a single fermentation process. These proteins can be used in products including plant-based foods, nutrition products, and cultivated meat.
