Arkeon Biotechnologies, an Austrian sustainable ingredients company that creates protein using microbes and carbon dioxide, has raised EUR 7 million (~USD 7.7 million) in seed funding led by Blue Horizon Ventures with participation from EVIG, Synthesis Capital, and ReGen Ventures.
The funds will be used to scale up the production of amino acids and peptides to develop clean-label ingredients for use in plant-based and cell-cultured food.
Founded in 2021, Arkeon Biotechnologies converts carbon dioxide into customizable functional proteins (which include 20 essential amino acids) by using microorganisms in a single fermentation process. These proteins can be used in products including plant-based foods, nutrition products, and cultivated meat.
