SuperMeat, a cellular agriculture startup developing cultured chicken meat, has announced that it has partnered with Ajinomoto, a multinational food and biotechnology company popular for its seasonings, to create a platform to accelerate the commercialization of cultured meat. The two companies will set up a joint venture to create solutions for ongoing food and health issues, combining the cultivated meat expertise of SuperMeat with Ajinomoto’s fermentation and biotechnology processes.
One of the focus areas of the JV includes developing cost-competitive cell-growth media amidst its current high costs due to the addition of growth factors and recombinant proteins.
This partnership is a part of Ajinomoto’s five-year medium-term management plan (2020–2025) where it aims to create sustainable solutions for food and health issues.
