Anaergia and Continuus Materials receive approval for Bioenergy Facility

Partnerships

  • Canadian waste-to-energy company Anaergia and building materials supplier Continuus Materials have signed a project development agreement (PDA) with Kent County Board of Public Works to build a USD 280 million material recovery facility (MRF) in the county.

  • The MRF also known as the Kent County Bioenergy facility, as initially proposed in October 2021, is expected to process 400,000 tons of trash, 30,000 tons of recyclables, and large amounts of organic materials annually. This will bring the county closer to its goal of diverting 90% of trash from its landfill by 2030.

  • Kent County plans to invest USD 70 million in the facility via a bond that will be repaid by tipping fees and revenue from the park's renewable products. Under the PDA, the initial term of this agreement is applicable for a period of 25 years from the start of operations.
