SupPlant, an Israeli precision agriculture startup providing hardware and software irrigation management solutions, has raised USD 27 million in funding led by Red Dot Capital. Other investors including Menomadin Foundation, Smart-Agro Fund, and Deshpande Foundation also participated in the round.
The funding will support the company in developing the company’s sensorless irrigation product, exploring new markets for its main product, and growing its headcount to more than 100 in 2022. As of March 2022, SupPlant works with 31 different crop types across 14 different countries.
<ul><li>The company also reported that it has successfully deployed its sensorless irrigation product to 500,000 maize farmers in Kenya over the last season, after announcing plans for it in June 2021. SupPlant aims to onboard 1 million South African and Indian smallholder farmers by 2022.<ul>
<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake : SupPlant has raised over USD 46 million to date. The crop monitoring and analytics space (USD 1.2 billion) is the second most funded space among the smart farming startups, with players such as Semios (USD 215.4 million) and Green Labs (USD 214.8 million) being heavily funded. When compared to these players, SupPlant is quite different in its target market, focusing on reaching over 2 million users for its sensorless irrigation platform in South Africa and India. The company outlined this target in its previous funding round in June 2021 and went on to expand its services to Morocco by partnering with Rahatech in January 2022 .<ul>
