Irish drone delivery company Manna Drone Delivery (Manna) has begun drone-based delivery services in Oranmore, Ireland in partnership with food ordering and delivery services provider Just Eat.
The service will first be available for Camile Thai restaurant customers ordering via Just Eat’s app. Upon the placement of an order, Manna drones will complete last-mile delivery within three minutes, according to the company. Just Eat plans to expand the service to include more restaurants in the future.
Manna first partnered with Just Eat in February 2020, signing up Camile Thai and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to make deliveries to students at University College Dublin. However, the project was put on hold later amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Camile Thai also has an ongoing partnership with Manna (entered into in February 2020), which is in a trial phase. The restaurant expects to start at-scale drone deliveries by the fall of 2021, as announced last October. This would allow restaurant customers to select drone delivery as an option when ordering via Camile Thai’s app. According to the initial tests, the restaurant believes drone-based deliveries would be half the cost of its road-based alternative.
Manna provides drone delivery as a service to restaurant chains, cloud kitchens, and online food delivery platforms. In September 2020, Tesco partnered with Manna to conduct six-month trial home deliveries to its customers from its Oranmore store in Galway County, Ireland. Additionally, the company was named Startup of the Year at Ireland’s National Startup Awards in December 2020.
