Glovo, a Spanish on-demand delivery app and subsidiary of German online food delivery platform Delivery Hero, acquired Kitch, a Portugal-based restaurant order management platform, for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition allows Glovo to deploy Kitch’s proprietary technology to support the needs of its restaurant partners across Glovo's operations in 25 countries, with an initial launch expected to take place in Italy and Georgia. Glovo reported that post-acquisition, Kitch will retain its independence in terms of technology and operations and plans to increase its headcount by 50 by the end of June 2022. Kitch plans to serve all restaurants with a focus on independent small and medium-sized restaurants. Additionally, Kitch commits to improving its service to restaurant partners by collaborating with online food delivery service providers and securing the protection and confidentiality of restaurant partner data.
Founded in 2019, Kitch enables restaurants to create an online store by aggregating food delivery apps onto a single tablet, allowing restaurants to manage their delivery orders, track couriers, and update their menus. It also offers payment management, delivery management, and customer service while interfacing with online food delivery platforms such as Uber Eats, Glovo, and Deliveroo.

Analyst QuickTake: The acquisition of Kitch builds on a series of acquisitions made by Glovo over the past year. Earlier last month, Glovo acquired Spain-based WinDelivery, reportedly the first Italian home-delivery service for wine, spirits, ice, and soft drinks. It focuses on medium and large restaurant brands and has served 1,000+ restaurants across Spain and Portugal. Earlier last year, Glovo acquired Lola Market and Mercadão , two grocery delivery startups, to scale its Q-commerce division. The company further stated that it aims to adopt a similar market presence strategy for Kitch.
