Planetary Technologies, a Canadian ocean air capture startup, has raised CAD 7.8 million (approx. USD 6.29 million) and CAD 4.2 million (approx. USD 3.3 million) through seed and pre-seed funding respectively and CAD 3.6 million (approx. USD 2.8 million) through a grant. Key investors included Innovacorp and Apollo Projects.
The proceeds will be used to build pilot facilities in Quebec and Nova Scotia to deploy Planetary Technologies’ proprietary carbon transition technology.
Founded in 2019, Planetary Technologies has developed a process to purify alkaline rocks remaining after mining, which is then added to the ocean to enhance its natural ability to capture and permanently sequester carbon from the atmosphere. Planetary Technologies is currently pre-selling carbon credits to its customers and states that Shopify is one of its early customers.
