Karana, a Singaporean plant-based meat startup, announced the distribution of its flagship alternative meat made from jackfruit in the US. The company will distribute two products: a ground meat product and a 100% plant-based alternative of a classic pork gyoza. US operations will be based in San Mateo, California.
Karana’s products will feature in menus at selected restaurants in San Francisco, US, followed by restaurants and food services in the Greater Los Angeles region. This marks the company’s first launch outside of Asia. The launch follows an undisclosed pre-Series A round and successful roll-outs in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Founded in 2018, Karana is a B2B plant-based meat brand that offers products to food services with retail in its pipeline. The company leverages its proprietary technology in processing its base ingredient “organic young jackfruit,” sourced from Sri Lanka, to develop plant-based pork including its mince and shreds.
