Visa approves Zwipe’s biometric payment card tech

Regulation/policy

 • Zwipe, a biometric payment card inlay provider, has obtained the letter of approval (LoA) from Visa for its “Zwipe Pay” platform, certifying that it has met Visa’s security and performance standards.

 • This enables smartcard manufacturers using Zwipe to obtain Visa certification for their own biometric payment cards.

Analyst QuickTake: As biometric payment cards start commercializing, payment networks such as Visa, Mastercard, and China UnionPay have been approving the cards and complementing technologies. Last November saw China UnionPay approving Hengbao biometric payment cards as well as Visa and Mastercard approving Idemia’s biometric cards , both of which featured IDEX Biometrics’ fingerprint authentication technology.
